An International Olympic Committee spokesperson said that athletes are not required to cover the Apple logo on their devices during the opening ceremonies, despite reportedly being told by Samsung to do so.
Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung provided athletes at the Sochi 2014 Olympics a free Galaxy Note 3 but that came with a catch that they cover up the Apple logo on their iPhone so its not visible during the opening ceremonies.
Addressing the issue, an IOC spokesperson told MacRumors:
“No it is not true. Athletes can use any device they wish during the Opening Ceremony. The normal rules apply just as per previous Games.”
“The Samsung Note 3 that were distributed are a gift to the athletes, so they can capture and share their experiences at the Games, and the phones also contain important competition and logistical information for competing athletes.”
The Olympic games in Sochi start today and continue until Feb 23, 2014.
