Apple has released both iOS 8.2 and WatchKit to developers, bringing some new information about the Apple Watch that is launching in 2015.
According to the Apple Watch Human Interface Guidelines, there will be two different resolutions for the two different sized watches. The smaller 38mm Apple Watch features a 272×340 resolution, while the larger 42mm Apple Watch sports a 312×390 resolution. Both models are “Retina” displays.
Apple notes that the different resolutions will mean different icon sizes based on the Apple Watch model. For instance, the Notification Center icon in the 38mm model will be 29 pixels, while the 42mm Apple Watch features a 36 pixel icon.
For now, Apple Watch third-party apps require iPhone connectivity, however “fully native” applications will launch in 2015. Both WatchKit and iOS 8.2 can be downloaded from the developer center.
