New screenshots of the Apple Watch ‘Companion’ app for iPhone, obtained by developer Steven Troughton-Smith.
The screenshots reveal that users will be able to manage and organize their watch applications via a virtual view on the iPhone.
Users will also be able to customize their clock face by adding a Monogram, a virtual stamped of 1-4 letters (usually your initials) on the clock face. You can also choose to enable a red dot that appears above the clock whenever a new notification is received. If you follow stocks, you can choose to track one on the watch face by current price, point change, percentage change, or market cap.
Messages received on the Apple Watch can be responded to via voice transcription or audio messages. Using the iPhone app you can choose which method is default. You can also enable or disable read receipts, set default text replies, and choose to receive messages from anyone or contacts only. Similar to the iPhone you can also choose how many alerts to receive for an individual message.
Users will also be able to enable various accessibility settings by triple-clicking the Digital Crown of the Apple Watch. There is a VoiceOver feature that can speak text on the screen. It’s said that you will be able to scroll through the text to be spoken using two fingers and enable VoiceOver by raising your wrist of double tapping the display. Double tapping with two fingers will zoom into the screen after which you can use two fingers to pan around and double tap while dragging to adjust zoom. There’s also settings to reduce motion, control stereo balance, reduce transparency, switch to grayscale, disable system animations and enable bold text.
Just like on the iPhone you will be able to set up a four digit passcode for your Apple watch. It’s required if you want to use Apple Pay. You can also enable a feature that when unlocking your iPhone will automatically unlock your Apple Watch as well; however, you must be wearing your watch for this to work. For added security, you can choose to have your Apple Watch erased after 10 failed passcode attempts.
There are also numerous settings for activity, motion, and fitness. For example, you can set stand reminders, activity progress updates, goal completion and achievements notifications, and a weekly summary of your move progress. Heart rate tracking and fitness tracking can be disabled and progress updates can be scheduled every 4, 6, or 8 hours.
The Companion app’s about screen shows storage capacity, the number of songs, photos, and apps stored on the device, its serial number, and Bluetooth and WiFi details.
