Apple is putting a ‘huge’ focus on stability and performance optimization for iOS 9.
For 2015, iOS 9, which is codenamed Monarch, is going to include a collection of under-the-hood improvements. Sources tell us that iOS 9 engineers are putting a “huge” focus on fixing bugs, maintaining stability, and boosting performance for the new operating system, rather than solely focusing on delivering major new feature additions. Apple will also continue to make efforts to keep the size of the OS and updates manageable, especially for the many millions of iOS device owners with 16GB devices.
One way Apple could improve the performance of iOS 9 is to limit its support to newer 64-bit devices. Dropping the iPhone 5c, iPad mini, iPod touch 5G, and older devices would mean all iOS 9 devices would have 64-bit A7, A8, or A9 processors.
While performance improvements would be the key feature of iOS 9, Apple has also been rumored to be working several new features including Transit and Indoor mapping, so there should be some enhancements to look forward to.
