Microsoft today announced a preview of Office 2016 for Mac that is officially available to download and try.
Similar to our recent announcements of universal Office apps for Windows 10 and Office for Android tablet, Office 2016 for Mac shares an unmistakably Office experience–but it is also thoughtfully designed to take advantage of the unique features of the Mac. The new apps offer full retina display support with thousands of retina-optimized graphics, full screen view for native immersive experiences, and even little Mac affordances like scroll bounce.
The new Office 2016 for Mac includes updated versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. The user experience has been modernized with a redesigned ribbon, a refreshed task pane interface, and new themes and styles.
Word

The new Word for Mac has state of the art editing, reviewing, and sharing tools. The new Design tab provides quick access to features and the new Format Object task pane gives you complete control over pictures, shapes, and effects.
Excel
Analyze and visualize your data in new and intuitive ways.
The new Excel for Mac brings you a fresh user interface as well as many functions from Excel 2013 for Windows. You’ll even be able to use your favorite keyboard shortcuts, giving you a more consistent cross-platform experience.
PowerPoint
Create, collaborate, and effectively present your ideas.
The new PowerPoint for Mac brings new slide transitions, an improved Animations task pane, and an improved coauthoring experience, including threaded comments alongside your slides and the ability to visually compare version conflicts and confidently choose the right one to keep.
OneNote
Harness your thoughts in your very own digital notebook.
Whether you are at home, on the go, or in the office, OneNote allows you to take your notes wherever you go while sharing and collaborating with others.
Outlook
Enjoy an Outlook mail experience that’s fast and looks great.
New features in Outlook include Online Archive support, category list sync, weather in calendar, apps for Office, and side-by-side calendar.
You can download the preview here. Microsoft says it will use the feedback to finalize the product for release in the second half of 2015. Every build will expire 60 days after it is posted. The last preview build will continue to function for a month after official launch date.
